After years of planning and work, construction of the Green Line on University Avenue is wrapping up and testing of light rail vehicles has begun. While the trains won’t roll for passengers until next year, there is a great opportunity coming up to check out the new University Avenue, visit your favorite businesses and find some new favorites along the way.

Please mark your calendars to attend Saint Paul’s first Open Streets event:

Date: September 15, 2013
Time: 11 am to 6 pm
Place: University Avenue between Hamline and Marion

During Open Streets, University Avenue between Hamline and Marion will be closed to vehicular traffic. The street will be available for exploration by pedestrians, cyclists, rollerbladers, stroller-pushers – any and all people-powered transportation modes! Many community partners have worked together to organize this event, maximize opportunities for businesses to meet new customers, and give residents and visitors a brand new way to explore University Avenue.

Plan to attend and please consider volunteering. Volunteers are the heart and soul of Open Streets. You can help make Saint Paul’s first Open Streets event a smashing success for businesses and visitors alike!

In the meantime, check out the growing list of activities and exhibitors, map out your day, and keep track via Facebook. See you on the street!
