Knight Green Line Challenge announces 27 finalists seeking to transform St. Paul Green Line neighborhoods

August 12, 2015

In its second year of the Knight Green Line Challenge, the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation announced 27 finalists on Monday, August 10, 2015.  The finalist individuals and organizations proposed innovative ideas to tap into the potential of the Green Line to make surrounding neighborhoods in St. Paul more vibrant places to live and work.  The proposals range in diverse ideas from a new weekend market for African immigrant entrepreneurs to resident-led neighborhood tours, from a moveable cinema that pops up in public spaces along the Green Line to parklets that engage people in community design.

The Knight Green Line Challenge saw a significant interest from the community with 358 applicants this year.

“We were pleased to receive so many applications from innovators of all kind,” said George Abbott, Knight Foundation interim program director for St. Paul. “It’s a demonstration of the passion that the people of St. Paul have for their city.”

The winners will be announced in late September and will take a share of the $500,000 reward.  For a list of the 27 Knight Green Line Challenge finalists, click here.
